Case for Change
The objective of this project is to address a skills gap with supervisors in the MDCI sector, particular around the areas of leadership, communication, and risk management.
To address these issues it is proposed to review units of competency related to supervision and to develop a skill set for supervisors working in the MDCI sector.
A Case for Change for this project was approved by the AISC in December 2017.

Consultation
On behalf of the Mining, Drilling and Civil Infrastructure IRCs, PwC’s Skills for Australia conducted industry consultation for this project from March 2018 – March 2019. Consultation focused on refining the skills needs of supervisors in the industry, providing pathways from operational to supervisory roles and balancing operational/interpersonal skills needs.
Following the IRCs’ review of our key findings from consultation and the recommendations we proposed, we have developed draft training products to address skills gaps.

Training Product Development
Following the MDCI IRCs’ approval of our key findings from consultation, we developed draft training products to address the skills gaps identified in supervisory skills for the industry.
The public review period for these draft training products is now closed.
The next step is to develop a Case for Endorsement for changes to the RII Training Package, which is to be provided to the MDCI IRCs for approval and submitted to the AISC late this year.
