Case for Change
The objective of this project is to update training in common skills areas in the RII training package, to ensure it supports workforce agility.
A Case for Change for this project was approved by the AISC in August 2018.
On behalf of the Coal Mining, Drilling, Extractive, Metalliferous Mining and Civil Infrastructure Industry Reference Committees, PwC’s Skills for Australia commenced industry consultations for this project in February 2019.
Consultation will focus on how we can improve training with respect to general employability skills for roles in the MDCI sector to enable workers to move between roles in response to fluctuations in industry demand.
Outcomes from the consultation will also endeavour to improve training for Surface Ventilation Technicians, Surface Ventilation Officers and Underground Ventilation Technicians to meet the needs of industry and raise safety standards.

Training Product Development
Following the MDCI IRCs’ approval of our key findings from consultation, we have developed draft training products to address the skills gaps identified for the industry.
The first batch of these draft training products is now available for public review.
Click on the links below to download the documents and find out how to submit your feedback.
We will be accepting your feedback until COB Friday November 8th, 2019.
The next step is to develop a Case for Endorsement for changes to the RII Training Package, which is to be provided to the MDCI IRCs for approval and submitted to the AISC later this year.
