Case for Change
The objective of this project is to review the extractive units of competency in the RII training package. It responds to increased fatalities and critical injuries in connection with planning and construction for dumps, ground control and dust management activities.
A Case for Change for this project was approved by the AISC in August 2019.

Consultation
On behalf of the Mining, Drilling and Civil Construction (MDCI) IRCs, PwC’s Skills for Australia commenced industry consultations for this project in November 2019.
Consultation focused on how we can amend and create training products to better address industry’s needs in the planning and construction of dumps, ground control and dust management activities. It also focused on tailings dam safety and environmental compliance.
Outcomes from the consultation also endeavoured to respond to ongoing health and safety challenges and technological change affecting the industry and aimed to clarify and strengthen career progression pathways for metalliferous mining and extractive workers.

Release
The Australian Industry and Skills Committee has endorsed RII Training Package Version 7.0 for release on the National Register.
Final training products for this project will be available on training.gov in early 2021. A copy of the Case for Endorsement is available to be downloaded (link below).
