Case for Change
Work on the Case for Change commenced in July 2017 and involved:
- Establishment of a dedicated Big Data Project Reference Group (PRG), consisting of various Industry Reference Committee (IRC) members from a diverse range of industries and subject matter experts;
- Extensive desktop research to understand what is happening both here and internationally (best and better practice), what big data training already exists and what job outcomes it leads to, and the evidence base to develop cross sector training; and
- Broad industry consultation throughout August and September 2017 across a range of industries, geographies and stakeholder types to hear different perspectives (including industry, government bodies, training providers and subject matter experts).
The Australian Industry and Skills Committee (AISC) approved the Big Data Cross Sector Case for Change at the February 2018 AISC meeting. Click on the links below to download the Big Data Cross Sector Case for Change and a summary of outcomes from national consultations.

Consultation
Over the coming months, we will work under the direction of a refreshed Big Data Project Working Group (PWG) and the Information and Communications Technology IRC to: undertake detailed industry consultation with subject matter experts; develop draft training products*; undertake quality assurance and review; and finalise a Case for Endorsement. This Case for Endorsement is due to be submitted to the Department in April 2019. If approved by the Australian Industry and Skills Committee (AISC), the proposed new cross sector units will be publicly available for download from the National Register.
