Case for Change
The objective of this project is to ensure that Australia’s Vocational Education and Training system is adequately preparing learners to undertake roles as vehicle repair estimators. More specifically it involves determining the viability of creating a new qualification, skill set, new technical units or amending existing training in relation to the job role of vehicle repair estimators.
The Case for Change for this project was established as a result of initial research and consultation undertaken by the previous automotive Industry Skills Council, Auto Skills Australia. The Case for Change was submitted and subsequently approved in December 2016, and the details were outlined in the 2017 Automotive Industry Skills Forecast and Proposed Schedule of Work.

Consultation
On behalf of the Vehicle Body Repairs IRC, PwC’s Skills for Australia carried out industry consultations for this project from June to September 2017.
Consultation focused on identifying the key changes to training products required to more closely align training for the role of a vehicle repair estimator with the skills needs of industry. Activities included targeted consultation with key stakeholders in the form of face-to-face and phone interviews, the establishment of a project working group, multiple focus groups and site tours.
Following the Vehicle Body Repairs IRC’s review of our key findings from consultation and the recommendations we proposed for changes to training products, we developed draft training products to address skills gaps.
The final round of consultation on these draft training products has now closed.
The next step is to develop a Case for Endorsement for changes to the AUR Training Package, which is to be provided to the Vehicle Body Repairs IRC for approval and then submitted to the AISC. This is the final chance for you to provide feedback on draft training products before they are published on www.training.gov.au.
