PwC’s Skills for Australia is in the process of making a minor update to the TAE Training Package, which will affect 13 units of competency.
This update is being made in response to an issue identified regarding the compatibility of the Standards for Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) 2015 (‘RTO Standards’) and the TAE Training Package. Specifically, this issue relates to requirements in the Training Package that trainers and assessors hold certain qualifications to deliver 13 individual units of competency.
The RTO Standards say:
Trainers and assessors delivering the Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, Assessor Skill Set, or Advanced Assessor Skill Set must hold one of the following qualifications:
- TAE50111/TAE50116 Diploma of Vocational Education and Training
- TAE50211/TAE50216 Diploma of Training Design and Development, or
- a higher level qualification in adult education.
The TAE Training Package states in various places:
Assessors of this unit must hold the TAE50116 Diploma of Vocational Education and Training or the TAE50111 Diploma of Vocational Education and Training or be able to demonstrate equivalence of competencies.
To avoid confusion, the Department of Education and Training has resolved that the above clause in the 13 applicable units of competency should be removed. This action is considered a minor update to the Training Package. To be clear, this means amending the TAE Training Package only, and that there will be no amendment to the RTO Standards.
The affected units are: TAEASS401, TAEASS402, TAEASS403, TAEASS501, TAEASS502, TAEDEL401, TAEDEL402, TAEDEL502, TAEDES401, TAEDES402, TAEDES501, TAELLN501 and TAEPDD501.
It is our intention to make the change on or about Friday 10 March, 2017. We will also take the opportunity to make very minor amendments including typographical errors.
